GREW UP ON A TIGHTROPE, LEARNED TO SMILE
EVEN WHEN I WAS FALLING DOWN
Charlie's hair is straight and brown, usually tied up into a pony tail or sometimes bunned if she's working hard with her horse. She doesn't like it hanging in her face. If she's pushed to do so, she'll braid it so that she can wear a helmet, but she's not a fan of them and will probably do her best to not wear one, in spite of the rules.
eye color: Brown
height and weight: 5'3" and 106 lbs
distinguishing features: Charlie has a small scar on her lower lip where she bit through it falling off her horse when she was nine. It hurt like heck and she had to get stitches, but the mark itself doesn't bother her.

personality overview: Charlie is incredibly shy, and she doesn't take to just anybody. She's that girl who keeps her head down as she goes from class to class, never looking up and meeting anybody's eyes because she's afraid of what she'll see if she does. After years of her mother tearing her down emotionally and bullying at school that nearly sent her over the edge, she no longer believes in herself of her abilities. She spends most of her time feeling sad and weak and fights with a sense of worthlessness that she doesn't deserve to feel.
Ultimately Charlie's a very good girl though, and she works hard at the things she cares about. Good luck getting her to go to class though! She has no interest really in school and she'd much rather be out riding than in the classroom. She's dedicated to her horse, and she doesn't understand why she has to work so hard on school. Most of the subjects don't seem to matter to her, even though the stable owner back home has told her time and again that she needs those skills if she wants to own her own ranch or stables one day.
But when Charlie does care about something, she's incredibly loyal to that cause. Riding and her horse are just one example. She keeps a daily diary and if she can get to her phone, she blogs through her 3G connection as well. Anything she cares about, she'll commit to in the deepest of ways. [/ul][/blockquote]

history:
Charlie's entire life has been spent around horses. From the time that she was three years old, she was on the back of a horse. She participated in her first event when she was six, and she's been growing as a rider and a handler ever since then. She has a strong affinity for the animals and it has been said that she may be a future trainer and whisperer. Though she has no interest in rescuing, the thought appeals to her because it means that she really is that good with the animals that she loves as much as she does.
When Charlie was seven, her parents split up. Her mother was the one who left, mainly because she felt that Rowan's temper was out of control. Though Danielle has always said that she left in order to protect Charlie, Charlie has never quite been sure of what her mother's motivations really were. One thing she's sure of is that her mother really didn't care what happened to Charlie. Though she continued to collect child support, and Rowan paid for Charlie's horse to be boarded and for its food, Danielle didn't do a lot for or with Charlie, and she was quite lonely.
Frustrated and fed up, Charlie started skipping school. Not just occasionally, but every single day. She spent all of her time in the stables, taking care of her horse, riding her horse, talking to her horse, grooming her horse, just being with her horse. She was sure that the horse was the only friend she had in the entire world and she didn't want to separate herself from it.
The firt time that Charlie received a failed report card, her mother threatened to send her to live with her father, reminding her of how harsh Rowan could be when he was unhappy with something that she'd done. The second time, the time that she failed the entire year, her mother made good on the threat. But not only that. She sold the horse.
Needless to say, Charlie was absolutely devastated. She arrived at her father's home with no horse and absolutely devastated. The first time she asked her father whether or not she could have another horse, he told her no so quickly that she wasn't sure what she was meant to think of that. Her grades, though she continued to go to school, tanked. There was no motivation for her to do anything at all.
Things were getting worse, and Rowan had no explanation for Charlie's strange behavior. Instead of being aggressive and stubborn, the way that he remembered her, she was withdrawn and moody, refusing to talk to him. He had no idea how a "we'll see" had turned into a "no" in her mind, nor did he even fully comprehend that it had happened at all. But that was what Charlie had heard, and heartbroken, she'd quit trying.
It wasn't until Rowan found Brook Haven that he felt sure that he could heal whatever was going on with Charlie. What better way to put her back together than to put her with the horses that she loved? He had the horse already at Brook Haven before he sent her there to meet it for the first time, hoping that together they might be able to find a new start for a girl who's past he didn't totally understand, even as her father.
