Brook Haven Ranch. It was supposed to be a place of healing, but as far as Ronni was concerned, it resembled more of a prison. At every turn she found herself confronted with her own mistakes and she didn't like it. Things had happened in Ronni's past; bad things, things she didn't want to deal with. Unfortunately, one of those things that came with her past that she didn't think she could deal with was her horse; Genesis.
You see, to understand Ronni you would have to understand that since the night of her fifteenth birthday her life hadn't been the same; it was the night of the fire that almost claimed both her and Genesis' lives as the barn went up in flames. She hadn't been okay, and because she knew that it was her own fault, she suffered extreme guilt over the whole incident. If she hadn't been drinking with her friends.... Or if she hadn't brought them out to the barn. There were what-ifs all over the place, but no real explanation for her dear friend who'd forever be scarred, just like Ronni herself was.
Since the fire, Genesis had needed to be sedated to keep her calm enough to be handled by their stable hands at the vineyard, and from what Ronni'd heard it had been the same since their arrival at Brook Haven.
"Nothing's changed." she said as she pulled a head phone out of her ear and sat down in the grass under a large oak. The day was hot, and the air was slightly moist, causing her hair pull out of the braid she'd pulled it in, and to stick to her neck. She wasn't talking to anyone, of course, knowing that she was alone. "Everything's just the same, they just think they can help but they can't." she muttered to herself, then rolled her eyes before she stuck the headphone back in her ear so that she could continue to listen to her music.
According to her schedule she was supposed to be out with Gen, but when she'd approached the stables it had been to hard to actually walk in, and instead she'd turned right around, wanting to be alone. If she couldn't forgive herself then there was no hope that her friend could either.
Ronni wasn't stupid, she knew that she was there because her brother wanted her there, and that she wouldn't leave until she gave him what he wanted. But the truth was that she just wasn't ready yet; she wasn't ready to take those huge leaps she felt like he was asking of her.
After another look around, she leaned her head back against the tree and closed her eyes, letting the rhythm of the music fill her. It wasn't the same as some of the things she craved most, but it had worked as a temporary filler, extremely temporary.
