Dane Frederick Lawrence
- denzel washington - - forty-seven - - headmaster - - stern - - understanding - - single -
Dane has been working at Brook Haven's school for as long as it's been open. He has a deep compassion for the students and is invested in their healing process, so he works hard to make sure that they have all of their needs met. He takes time to spend with each of the students living at the Ranch, and he keeps careful files on their activities on the grounds.
Always engaged, Dane is easy to find, and he's rarely in his office. He's always around the ranch somewhere, and isn't afraid to get his hands dirty helping to take care of the animals and the students as well. He's a loving guy who wants what's best for everyone who comes through his doors.
Charles Andrew Brook
- kenny chesney - - forty-two - - head trainer/healer - - gentle - - soft-spoken - - married-
Charlie Brook is the second-generation current owner of Brook Haven Ranch. He is a known horse whisperer who has spent the last thirty years getting the most out of horses that have been so damaged that nobody thought they would be able to survive their pasts, let alone become normal or even ridable again. He has a gentle way with both horses and teenagers. He's gentle and soft spoken, though he knows how and when to be firm with both horses and humans.
Sometimes Charlie expects too much from the students on the Ranch, but he's a good person who has their best interests at heart. He might surprise you if you let him; he's a great friend to anyone who needs somebody to talk to, even if he doesn't consider himself a counselor.
Jeanine Walker Brook
- renee zellweger - - forty - - head counselor - - generous - - compassionate - - married-

Jeanine can be extremely hard core, and she has a tendency to crack down hard on the students who are her clients. She knows that the future can hold better things for them and she won't take no for an answer. The students will do their chores, take care of their horses, and participate in all of their lessons. They aren't given a choice. She's not going to tolerate anything less from them than what they can give.
But she's also there with support and words of kindness when they need her. This project was her idea, and while she refuses to allow it to fail, she understands that personal failure is often a part of life and something that helps her students to grow as individuals. She'll never deny a student a hug or a person to talk to when they are feeling distressed or needy.
Victor Johnson Brook
- blake shelton - - thirty-two - - western riding instructor - - outgoing - - kind - - single -
Victor is the son of Charlie's oldest brother, Jack. He returned to the family Ranch as a riding instructor when he was in his mid twenties. He has a gentle way with the horses and a kind way with the students, and because he was (re)trained by his uncle, he's become very successful at assisting in healing both. He considers himself easy to talk to and he tries to always be there for his riding students so that he can help them to grow as people and as riders.
Taking the students for trail rides is one of Victor's favorite ways to get to know them, and he's very interested in one-on-one interactions with the students to help them to learn to become stronger riders and stronger people in the meantime.
Rachel Dawn Brook
- miley cyrus - - fifteen - - freshman - - shy - - withdrawn - - single -
The Self-Harmer
Rachel is Victor's daughter, born out of wedlock when he was working for his father in Michigan. He didn't know about her until about three years ago when her mother started to have issues with her behavior and contacted him for help. He agreed to bring her out to live with him at Brook Haven and home school until she was old enough for the school's programs.
Since then he's discovered that she's a cutter, and that a lot of her issues come from the pain of not knowing who her father was for so many years. She has problems, but she's really deep down a good kid who tries to keep herself out of the trouble that some of the other students get into.
Brady Sean Drake
- alex pettyfer - - seventeen - - senior - - damaged - - aggressive - - single -
Post Traumatic Stress
A year ago Victor watched his best friend of eleven years die in the streets in a gang-related drive-by shooting in Chicago. Since then he's been telling himself that everything's fine and that he can move on without him, but he wakes up unable to breathe, feeling like there's an elephant sitting on his chest.
Brady's mother forced him to see a therapist, who diagnosed post traumatic stress, and determined that Brady should get away for a bit and rest, somewhere outside of the city. His mother sent him to Brook Haven in the hopes that he might have some time to heal there.
